Winter à la Waldviertel
Granted: the biggest most frequented skiing regions with the longest pistes are not to be found here, but winter in the Waldviertel has other attractions too: the winter wonderland and the contemplative peace are much appreciated by those in the know. No après-ski-bars or hustle and bustle disturb this idyll. Cross-country skiers are able to recharge their batteries in the bracing winter air.
Several hundred of kilometres of cross-country skiing tracks take you through the gentle hilly countryside. Alpine skiers have lots of fun and excitement on the slopes in Karlstift and Harmanschlag, the most northerly skiing region in Austria. For those who prefer not to ski, Nordic walking, snowshoe hiking or ice-skating are some of the alternatives.
