Waldviertel as Golfing Country

In the Waldviertel you can golf to your heart’s content.

The natural countryside in the Waldviertel makes a spectacular backdrop for special golf experiences. “Waldviertel – Bohemia: Heart of Golf” is one of the most charming and diverse golfing regions in Europe.

This golfing region straddling the Austrian-Czech border has 15 different courses with more than 250 fairways for you to explore. Golfers of every ability level are sure to get their money’s worth in the Waldviertel. In Haugschlag, golfers enjoy the advantages and challenges of a “Leading Golf Course of Austria”, which has hosted the European Tour multiple times.

But novices will also feel right at home in the Waldviertel, for instance in Litschau, at Golfclub Herrensee and in Drosendorf at Golfclub Thayatal. Both courses invite you simply to stop by and play. They can even take care of equipment and clubs for you.  You can play at these courses without being a member and without formal proof of ability (“Platzreife”). Golfclub Lengenfeld is another uncomplicated course for you to gather your initial golfing experiences. Every Sunday, this course in the Kamp Valley invites novices to come and get a taste of the game of golf.

The hill country in the northern Waldviertel is home to the 18-hole course of Golfclub Weitra. Nine fairways are even floodlit, allowing nighttime golf.

Aside from its scenic setting, Golfclub Ottenstein in Rastenfeld also has culinary delights available: The golfing magazine “Golfrevue” has named the award-winning Clubhaus the best golf restaurant in Austria for the second time.
