Route description Jauerling Route 03: Maria Laach-Emmersdorf

In Maria Laach, with its remarkable Gothic pilgrimage church, we follow the main street from the marketplace towards Emmersdorf. At the edge of the village, we continue straight on a farm road between fields and meadows to Friedersdorf. We walk along the main street into the village, then turn left and follow the farm road to Loitzendorf. At the bell tower in the village center, we turn left and descend to the Loitzendorf brook. After crossing it, our path continues through forests and fields uphill to Felbring. Passing the noteworthy bell tower, we follow the road through the hamlet, passing an intersection with the Wachau World Heritage Trail, and continue straight to the main road. We cross this and pass the former Merkl guesthouse into the forest. The path leads down in switchbacks to the Grimsinger brook, which we cross before ascending to the hamlet of Zintring. In the village, our path turns right and descends into the impressive Grimsinger Gorge, where we walk along the brook into the village of Grimsing. In the center, the old road to Emmersdorf branches off to the right, which we follow with magnificent panoramic views through Gossam to Emmersdorf. At the fortified church of Saint Nicholas, we turn left around it, cross the railway tracks, and descend through the Koloman stairs into Market Street, where our stage ends.
