Aubergwarte

Lookout tower, Scenic lookout

Description

From the Aubergwarte, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view over the Waldviertel and in some places far beyond.

The Schneeberg is clearly visible to the south-west, the Jauerling in the foreground, the Ötscher to the south and the Großer Peilstein and Weinsberg further clockwise, with Rappottenstein Castle and the "Stockzahn" of Arbesbach nearby to the west. The Wachtberg, the Nebelstein and the Mandelstein are also easily recognizable.

To the north, the Dürnhof, Zwettl Abbey and Edelhof are clearly visible, then the church of Waidhofen/Thaya far behind and the silo of Bernschlag in the foreground, followed by the Predigtstuhl and the Siegharts mountains. A little closer again are the Kaufholz camp in the military training area and Döllersheim and Ottenstein Castle.

To the east, the Horn silo can be seen behind Rastenfeld and the church of St. Leonhard am Hornerwald above Rastenberg Castle. The Loschberg obscures the landscape behind it. Of the villages in the market town of Großgöttfritz, Engelbrechts can be seen directly below the Auberge, Frankenreith to the west, part of Großgöttfritz itself and also some houses in Großweißenbach, Reichers and Rohrenreith to the north and Sprögnitz to the north-east.

The Aubergwarte has already become a popular excursion destination in the short time it has existed, both because of the magnificent view and because of the beautifully designed, interesting construction of the building itself.
