Kirchberg am Walde: Historical sights
The castle, which is medieval in essence, is considered to be baroque-early classicist. The pillory from 1714 still stands on the town square, while one of the best-preserved gallows in the country, dating from the late 18th century, can be seen on the road to Ulrichs. The former All Saints' Hospital - a burgher hospital built between 1715 and 1719 - is also a listed building. The Rauenstein fortress, a former defensive structure with wall elements from the 13th century, is also impressive.
The churches of Kirchberg am Walde
Kirchberg am Walde, Süßenbach and Weißenalbern are each home to a magnificent parish church. On the way to Hirschbach is the so-called Red Chapel: it was demonstrably built in 1659 on the spot where an image of the Virgin Mary had previously been attached to a tree for a long time.
