Droß

Description

Droß is located on a high plateau around 10 kilometers from Krems an der Donau in the Waldviertel. To the north begins the Gföhlerwald, a very wooded and hilly area, while to the west is the Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German), a deep river valley.

The municipalities of Gföhl, Lengenfeld, Stratzing and Senftenberg border on Droß (clockwise from the north). Droß was originally a separate lordship; after the extinction of the family, Jörg Mühlfelder was enfeoffed with the lordship by Duke Albrecht in 1427.

In 1971, Droß was merged with the neighboring municipality of Stratzing during the major municipal reform. However, they were separated again in 1993.
