Details for: High path, Red 3 - Xundwärts route Groß Gerungs

Brief description

Is the same as hiking trail No. 42!

Hiking trail No. 42 runs via Klein Gundholz to Kinzenschlag. The return route leads via Marharts to the Klaus Chapel, one of the places of the Kraftarena Groß Gerungs, and then back to Groß Gerungs via Klein Reinprechts.

Description

The path leads especially in the Zwettl valley and on the elevation of Kinzenschlag through very scenic areas. Repeatedly there are views of the typical Waldviertel landscape with its hilly shape and typical varied land use. Passing by the huge rock formation on which the former Wackelstein rested before it toppled over in 2011 and broke into two parts. Especially worth seeing is the Klaus Chapel, which lies romantically on the Zwettlbach and was originally built as a bathhouse. According to legend, if you make the bell at the Klaus Chapel ring three times with a single pull of the rope, your wish will come true.

Route description High path, Red 3 - Xundwärts route Groß Gerungs

The hiking trail starts at the Cardiovascular Center and then runs downhill to the Zwettl River. Near Klein Gundholz, you cross the federal road and hike along the Zwettl towards Klein Reinprechts. At a bridge over the Zwettl, you turn towards Marharts and shortly thereafter to the left towards Klein Gundholz, where the path runs through a wooded area. Shortly before Klein Gundholz, the path turns right and runs through a forest area to Kinzenschlag. In Kinzenschlag, there is the possibility to take a short break at the Gasthaus Einfalt. Afterwards, the path leads downhill again to Marharts and to the Klaus Mill. Here you walk a short stretch upstream, cross the Zwettl River again and then reach the Klaus Chapel directly. The path then continues to Klein Reinprechts and back to the Cardiovascular Center Groß Gerungs.
