Brief description

St. Oswald in the southern Waldviertel is known for the beautiful view of the Alps: Overlooked to the north by Burgsteinberg (1013 m), St. Oswald offers a magnificent view of the Alps to the south. Interesting are the mystical places, such as the Herzstein, Totenkopfstein, Stone Kornmandel, etc.

Description

The strange stone formations of the Ysper valley have always occupied people, as numerous legends and myths prove. Their secrets have not yet been revealed. The 5 m high Herzstein - after which two circular hiking routes are named - reminds some of the human organ, others - inclined to geomancy and esotericism - recognize female forms and life symbols here; they consider the granite block a double cult stone. In any case, it is a highly interesting station on a round route that also leads to other strange stone figures, such as the "Totenkopf" - which can be climbed on a staircase - or the "Stone Kornmandel". A route that one fondly remembers.

Small but nice, that could describe the Losenegger gorge, not so steep but all the more pleasant to hike through! Wonderfully clear water rushing over the stones, with lush green moss and ferns.
