Details for: Rosenburg circular route
Brief description
High on a mighty rock above the Kamp valley, visible from afar, sits Rosenburg Renaissance Castle. An impressive castle complex, a refuge with a very special atmosphere. With more than 65,000 visitors a year, Rosenburg is one of the most visited attractions in Lower Austria.
Description
The well-known summer resort Rosenburg, famous beyond the country's borders, with its dozens of Gründerzeit villas lies in the Kamp valley, dominated by the castle of the same name. The original castle from the 12th century was part of the Babenberg fortification chain; during the Renaissance, it received its final appearance, which has been preserved to this day, featuring the largest tournament yard in Central Europe. On display are crossbows, knight's armor, rifles, cannons, … and in summer Shakespearean plays. Particularly spectacular are the birds of prey demonstrations by falconers. In the adjacent forest, a high ropes climbing park was created for the younger generation. The baroque pilgrimage church Maria Dreieichen, with the famous dome painting by Paul Troger, is counted among Austria's most beautiful. Thousands of pilgrims visit the basilica every year.
