Sandgrube und Feuchtbiotop

Description

At the sand pit, you can see traces of the primeval sea and find fossils of shells, snails and shark teeth. At the base of the western part of the sand pit are layers of rusty yellow sand up to 2 m high with many fossils that are over 20 million years old. At that time, there was a shallow, sandy bay here in the Eggenburg Sea, which was overgrown with sea grasses.
