The Schauensteinweg in the Kamptal is a varied circular route.
This is a great place for hiking!
Starting point of the tourAltpölla, Wegscheid, Krug
Destination point of the tourAltpölla
The circular hiking route starts at the parking lot by the parish church in Altpölla and runs through the village. After the Speneder inn, the path leads right, and after the firefighting pond, it goes left to the south, over field paths towards the transmission mast. Through the high forest, it descends into the Kamptal to Wegscheid am Kamp. In the village of Wegscheid am Kamp, the route passes the Wegscheidhof hotel, the Wegscheid entry point, and the chapel, then follows the Kamp river downstream. Here begins the untouched, romantically wild Kamptal with the forest nature trail.
On the Kamp, you see the Riesenstein on the right. After crossing the Betzbach stream, you ascend left through the forest to the Schauenstein ruin. Here you climb the viewing tower and learn all about the eventful (construction) history of this ruin while enjoying the unique view over the Kamptal. (The keep is accessible only with a key and for a small fee. The key can be obtained from the Hainzl family at Krug 29 (right next to the parking lot for the ruin), at the Speneder inn in Altpölla, at the Kainrath inn in Altpölla, and at the Wegscheidhof hotel in Wegscheid am Kamp.) The route continues towards Krug. Here, at the parking lot, there is another entry point for this circular hiking route. Before this parking lot, however, keep left and go past the "Red Cross" through the forest, cross the Pölzbach stream, and follow the former school path back to Altpölla.

The Schauenstein ruin was lovingly restored at the end of the 1980s. From the keep, you enjoy a truly magnificent panorama of the deep Kamptal, which is completely untouched in this section. The effort of the ascent is richly rewarded by the fabulous view!
