Bärenwald Arbesbach

BÄRENWALD Arbesbach is a sanctuary run by the animal welfare organization FOUR PAWS for bears in need. Here, bears from inadequate husbandry conditions find a new, animal-friendly home. In addition to the bear-watching experience, the facility offers plenty of opportunities for exploration: exhibition (restricted access), souvenir store (restricted access), visitor trail (restricted access) with information stations and various play options round off the offer.

Bear Trail long-distance hiking trail
The BÄRENWALD is also the starting and finishing point of the Bärentrail hiking trail network. You can obtain hiking maps and further information on the various routes from the information center of the animal protection project (www.baerentrail.at).

Dogs are very welcome
The BÄRENWALD is a particularly dog-friendly excursion destination. There is plenty to discover for four-legged companions with the originally designed dog zone and the course for clever dogs.

Public arrival and departure by bus/train
Current travel plans for bus and train can be found on the BÄRENWALD website (www.baerenwald.at/besuch/anreise).
The Waldviertelbahn offers the so-called Bärenwald-Express 3 times per season. Guests can take the Waldviertelbahn from Gmünd station to Groß Gerungs and from there take the bus to the BÄRENWALD - after approx. 3 hours you can return.
From Zwettl bus station bus to Arbesbach Bärenwald - Line: 735 (weekdays), 732/235 (only on school days)
