Biermeile Weitra

The Weitra Beer Mile leads through the picturesque old town of Weitra and takes a look at unusual perspectives on the topic of beer in 9 stations. These stations, designed as hop fields, are places of information, interaction and communication in equal measure. However, they also serve as a place of rest and contemplation.

Each station is dedicated to a special theme. Visitors learn how beer has shaped the landscape with barley and hop fields. Of course, water also plays a major role in brewing beer, as the Waldviertel's primary rock water is the ideal basis for brewing beer. In the past, beer was not only used for enjoyment, it was also - probably rightly - considered to be safer for health than water and served as a satisfying thirst quencher. Other stations on the Beer Mile deal with the Iron Curtain, industry and the protection of the city. The golden hop cones set into the ground point the way along the Beer Mile.
