Burg Heidenreichstein
Fortress, Museum
Description
The origins of the mighty and well-preserved moated castle date back to around 1160 with the construction of the keep.
Still accessible today via two drawbridges, Heidenreichstein Castle leaves a powerful impression on visitors.
In the interior rooms, which can ONLY be visited as part of a guided tour, you can still see all the furnishings from various eras, such as original wooden components from 1186, a Gothic gable cupboard from the 14th century and countless tables. There are also countless tables and chairs from the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods.
The castle is still the permanent residence and administrative seat of the Heidenreichstein estate, which was owned by the Palffy princes for a long time until 1947 and has been owned by the Kinsky family since 1961.
