Description
When the Weiß family bought their property in 1995, the plan was to build a detached house in the Finnish log style and a garden shed - surrounded by plenty of greenery, as a field of activity for Edith Weiß, a trained gardener. In the meantime, the 1,700 m2 not only became her home, but also her workplace and center of life.
The main focus in the selection of plants and other design elements is on self-sufficiency with flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables, but also as material for creative purposes. Adapting to the climate and soil in the southern Waldviertel at 640 meters above sea level poses challenges, which the Weiß family overcomes with the help of rainwater harvesting, raised beds, dry stone walls, mixed cultivation and site-appropriate planting. They are delighted that they have been able to create a habitat with their garden in which people as well as domestic and wild animals feel really at home.
