Flussbad Stiefern
Outdoor adventure, Swimming site / lake
Description
The Stieferner Badwiesn am Kamp is freely accessible and is recommended as a resting place for families or groups. In addition to the bathing facilities, it has benches, a public toilet and a free-to-use barbecue station. A buffet is not available.
For around a century, the Kamp was part of Stiefern's essential "working capital", as it offered the guests of the former summer resort a highly frequented "river bathing facility". Although the traditional bathing romance ended in the 1970s at the latest, the idealistic value of the bathing area continues: many people still fall back on the bathing function as a tradition, and as the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) cycle path leads almost directly past the former river baths, cyclists also make use of the opportunity to cool off. Over the course of time, many innovative attempts at re-use have been made. On the initiative of the Stiefern Beautification Association in particular, a lot of contemporary infrastructure has been added to the bathing area: WC, children's playground, publicly accessible barbecue, benches for resting, well-kept lawn, furthermore an information board of the "Kamp Valley ("Kamptal-Schönberg" in German) Nature Park. On the initiative of the Stiefern volunteer fire department, the "Badwiesn" has also established itself as a popular festival site. These remarkable achievements, which were largely achieved on a voluntary basis, literally went down the drain with the floods of August 2002. Thanks to the members of the volunteer fire department and the beautification association, the area was quickly redesigned and rebuilt according to the plans of Hundertwasser architect Peter Pelikan, who is based in Stiefern. After countless volunteer efforts, the Kampbad is a real eye-catcher and is once again a popular place to swim and spend time. The festival grounds are fully equipped and the infrastructure can also be hired privately.
