Glass craftsmanship

The village of Hirschenwies owes its origins and boom to the glass industry. There was a glassworks here in the middle of the extensive forest area as early as 1660. Quartz was partly extracted from the quartz veins of Hirschenstein, but most of it came from the nearby Black Forest in Bohemia.

In the glass art factories in Hirschenwies and Lauterbach, you can still find handmade, precious souvenirs and gifts made of fine crystal glass. The workshops are open daily, and show-cutting and custom-made pieces are available by appointment.
