Grenzlandmuseum Raabs/Thaya

Description

The Raabs Borderland Museum was founded in 1984 by the municipality of Raabs under the then councillor for culture, Othmar Knapp. The museum building was built by the Raiffeisenkasse Raabs. Under the motto "6,000 years of agriculture on the Thaya", the Neolithic stone axes found in the municipality, medieval finds, remaining inventory items from Raabs Castle and various agricultural and forestry tools are on display.

The museum was newly adapted in 1998. In view of the sharp increase in archaeological finds in the area, a room was dedicated to "History from the Soil". It was set up by Dr. Kurt Bors, who has been active in the archaeological survey of the region and the localization of lost medieval sites since 1987. The second exhibition theme was chosen on the occasion of the anniversary in the year 2000 "900 years of Raabs Castle and Market" and is dedicated to the historical development of the market up to the elevation of the town in 1926.

The Grenzlandmuseum can be visited during the opening hours of the town hall:
