Heidenreichsteiner Moor

Outdoor adventure

Description

In the Heidenreichstein Moor Nature Park, nature shows its most beautiful side at any time of year. The moor nature trail leads through the middle of the 30-hectare high moor, home to rare animal and plant species. Particularly impressive is the mysterious "Hanging Stone", which seems to float weightlessly above the ground and has remained in place for thousands of years.

Austria's smallest nature park delights visitors with its unique moorland landscape, in which spruce, pine and birch trees create a Nordic atmosphere. Sundew, a rare carnivorous plant, grows in the former peat bog. Visitors can experience the moor at first hand on the so-called beating paths and hike over 10,000 years of vegetation history, stored in the peat.

Two circular hiking trails, the moorland trail (2.7 km) and the forest trail (3.7 km), invite you to go on exciting discovery tours, optionally with a guide. In summer, the moor treading area and natural pond with bathing area provide refreshment.

Ideal for families: the moor museum imparts knowledge in a playful way, while the large playground with cable car and snack garden provides fun. Snacks and drinks await explorers of all ages in the Naturparkstüberl.

Entry to the Heidenreichstein Moor Nature Park is free and open all year round - a perfect excursion destination in the Waldviertel for nature lovers, families and photographers alike.
