Kamptal zwischen Zwettl und Roiten
Outdoor adventure
Description
The Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) in the Waldviertel, between Zwettl and Roiten, is a real natural paradise. The free-flowing Kamp meanders through fragrant coniferous forests, past mighty granite boulders and bizarre rock formations. Time seems to stand still here, roads and settlements are rare and tranquillity is omnipresent.
The world-famous artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser found his inspiration in this landscape. His traces can be discovered on the Hundertwasser hiking trail (No. 55a): the colorful Hundertwasser fountain in Zwettl, the Hundertwasser mill, also known as the "Hahnsäge", and the Roiten village museum, which was once a milk collection point.
The tourist trail near Gschwendt offers a special nature experience with old beech trees and views of the Kamp. Also worth seeing is the rock garden near Uttissenbach, where ancient granite colossi form an impressive landscape. Hikers can combine their tour with a detour to the Hoher Stein or the Weißenbachklamm gorge.
From Roiten, the Kamp meanders through an open meadow landscape, a paradise for nature lovers and photographers. Whether on the trail of Hundertwasser or on a hike through the quiet valley: the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) near Zwettl shows the original beauty of the Waldviertel in its purest form.
