Kloster Pernegg

Monastery / abbey

Description

A vacation at Pernegg Monastery is a vacation from everyday life.
The possibilities at Pernegg Monastery are almost as diverse as its long history.

The history

Founded in 1153 by Count Ulrich II von Pernegg, Pernegg Convent has had an eventful history. After plundering and the death of the last canoness in 1585, the monastery was taken over by the canons of Geras.
As a result of the Josephine church reforms, the monastery was completely dissolved and the furnishings auctioned off. In 1854, Emperor Franz Joseph transferred ownership of the Pernegg property back to the Geras Canons' Monastery.

Due to its excellent acoustics, concerts are regularly held in the completely restored collegiate church "Zum heiligen Andreas" in addition to church services.

The monastery today

Today, Pernegg Abbey is a place for "discovering silence". The Waldviertel fasting center with 50 rooms invites you to relax and recharge your batteries. Guests have their own sauna area and a large gym with cardio equipment at their disposal. Meditation, group and recreation rooms invite you to linger undisturbed, as do the extensive monastery gardens.

Monastery fasting

Thanks to the variety of topics covered by the monastery fast and the wide range of themed fasting courses, Pernegg Monastery has become one of the most successful fasting centers in Austria in recent years.
