Description

The many facets of falconry are on display at Waldreichs Castle.
Thanks to the Austrian Falconry Association, falconry became a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Austria in 2010.
The falconers of the "Lower Austrian Falconry & Birds of Prey Center" in Waldreich Castle have made it their mission to keep this heritage alive. The facility was designed under the guidelines of the Austrian Animal Protection Act and now offers the many facets of falconry.

Free flight of the birds of prey:
Visitors enjoy the free flight of the birds of prey on display and listen to the presenters talk about their lives as predators in the ecosystem.
The grace and elegance of birds of prey in free flight is fascinating.
The "Free Flight of Birds of Prey" demonstrations take place at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. with a minimum attendance of 10 people.

Aviary tour:
Here you can look at all our birds of prey.
Even those that, for various reasons, do not take part in the flight demonstration.
Our feathered residents include: Golden Eagles, White-tailed Eagles, Imperial Eagles, Giant Eagles,
kara-karas, kites, various species of falcon, blue buzzard, Harris hawk/desert buzzard, vultures, ....

Owl Park:
In the owl park, you can view a wide variety of owl species and learn about their way of life. On a walk through this lovingly designed park in a wooded area, you can relax from the stresses of everyday life and at the same time observe our owls in the pleasant tranquillity of the shady forest.

Falconry museum/info center:
A museum-like impression of the over 3000-year-old history of falconry is provided by the
falconry information center. The various exhibits tell the story of falconry, from its origins in the Asian steppes to the present day.

Golden eagle center & falconry school:
The focus of falconry work concerns golden eagle breeding and subspecies research.
However, the golden eagle center is located in Sankt Leonhard am Hornerwald and can therefore not be visited during a visit to the Birds of Prey Center.
The falconry school offers various seminars and courses on falconry at the Waldreichs Castle Bird of Prey Center.
