Description
Over 100 kilometers of hiking and cycling trails are offered to visitors by the cross-border Thayatal-Podyjí National Park! Striking meanders and cutoff meander hills of the Thaya River shape one of the last nearly untouched valley landscapes in Central Europe. The valley surprises with impressive views and a wealth of animal and plant species. Many places along the hiking trails have preserved their untouched and original character.
With a total of five hiking trails on the Austrian side of the river and one cross-border circular hiking trail, the National Park offers hiking enthusiasts a natural paradise with impressive viewpoints over the hilly landscape, which is traversed by the winding Thaya. Three of the six routes start directly at the National Park Center and begin by passing through the “Wilderness Portal.”
The National Park Center near Hardegg is the first point of contact, as guests will find an information center, the “Nature Stories” exhibition, a shop, a café-restaurant, a large adventure playground, and Austria’s largest wildcat enclosure, the main attraction.
