Theater im Kopf-Bahnhof Groß Gerungs

Theatre

Description

Since 2005, theater has been performed in the former locomotive shed at the terminus station in Groß Gerungs, a very unusual venue for theater performances.

Groß Gerungs has been the terminus of the southern branch of the Waldviertel Railway since 1903. A shed was therefore built here to store the locomotives during the night. Regular operations were discontinued in 2001 and since then the railroad has only been used for tourist purposes. The coach house was therefore no longer needed for railroad operations and was lovingly converted into a theater hall by many dedicated helpers.

The first performance took place in 2005. Peter Lauscher, who worked as a cameraman and director at ORF before his retirement, was recruited as director. Thanks to his many years of experience in the theater, he was able to bring many humorous, but at the same time profound plays of high quality to the stage with the amateur actors from Groß Gerungs and the surrounding area.
