Doris Schreibers Wirtshaus is tucked away on the edge of the forest in the middle of nature. The Waldschenke is known for its unique hospitality as well as the innkeeper's culinary flair. The philosophy is simple: regional and seasonal herbs and vegetables set the tone or, in this case, the taste. Coming from the restaurant's own garden, they form the basis for the restaurant's constantly reinterpreted cuisine. The classics include Waldviertel carp, traditional poppy seed dishes and game specialties. We recommend the sauerkraut foam soup with grammel dumplings or the hearty Schrems rye beer soup with poppy seed pancakes. Vegetarians should try the baked red cabbage dumplings with mushroom sauce.

There is great respect in the Gmünd district. Landlady Doris Schreiber and her team have managed to create an inn in the middle of nowhere. Since 2009, the natural wooden hut has been a permanent fixture in the Waldviertel. The restaurant radiates a special coziness, the garden under the trees in the fresh nature is balm for the soul and a popular wedding location. A large selection of vinophile delicacies can be found in the wine cellar.
