Waldviertler Wurzelwelt

Description

he Waldviertler Wurzelwelt is intended to help visitors understand the importance of forests, wood and renewable energy. The presentation of regional energy cycles is intended to raise awareness and encourage greater personal responsibility. The aim is to convey a connection to our nature and our forests in an unexpected way, especially to children and young people. Attention and curiosity about the forest and the Waldviertel are aroused.

About 300 meters from Raab's main square, more than 30 native tree and shrub species, some of them "upside down", are planted on an area of approx. 700m². You can find shelter from rather unfriendly weather in a specially constructed, covered area, where interesting information boards and seating are available. In addition, more than 30 "wood messages" have been set up throughout the root world, revealing often unknown facts about the forest and timber industry. Did you know, for example, that in Austria one solid cubic meter of wood grows back every second and that despite use, the wood supply in Austria increases by 0.8% per year? And also that the timber industry is the biggest foreign currency earner in Austria, alongside tourism?

Forest education

Forest education is an active, versatile learning method not only for children, but it is also a wonderful experience for people of all ages. Teachers and children find it a valuable addition to classroom lessons. Older generations can open themselves up to a new experience of nature. Whether it's a school class, a senior citizens' group or a family - a unique group dynamic develops in the forest.

With fun and games, we can convey the connections between wood, the product of what is probably the most beautiful factory on earth, and our daily lives. Plants and herbs with their legends and healing powers also find a place in our active adventure program. We also want to arouse interest in the forest as a habitat for numerous animal species. From the smallest microorganism to the wild boar, badger and deer - each individual is an important part of this unique ecosystem. In the times we live in today, a positive approach to nature and our environment seems more important than ever. Forest education enables us to sensitize people to their responsibility and interaction with our environment. Being close to the forest awakens love and respect for Mother Nature not only in children, but in all of us. Our educational forest tours are also "weatherproof". Thanks to the roofing in the Wurzelwelt and a practical tent tarpaulin for the forest, we are able to carry out our program even in bad weather.
