Ysperklamm

Outdoor adventure

Description

The Ysper Gorge, protected as a natural monument since 1952, is considered the largest and most spectacular gorge in Lower Austria. Over a length of almost 2 km, the Great Ysper plunges over impressive waterfalls, winds its way through narrow gorges and forms breathtaking rock formations. Especially after rain, the water shows its typical, slightly brownish color, caused by the high humic acid content of the forest soil.

The Ysperklamm hiking trail offers a unique nature experience. Well-secured bridges, wooden walkways and steps lead safely through the gorges and past numerous waterfalls. Small shallow water zones invite you to refresh and cool off along the way. The starting point of the hike is the Forellenhof inn. The ascent leads to the historic "Ödteich", once part of the Holzschwemme, and rewards you with an overwhelming view over the peaceful gorge.

There are two options for the way back: the same route back or the adjacent Druid Trail, where mysterious stone settings such as the "Great Bowl", the "Sitting Dog" or the "Stone Circle" can be discovered. The "Rote Reithbrücke" bridge in the middle of the gorge also makes for an easy descent and perfect photo spots.

The Ysperklamm gorge combines nature, adventure and relaxation, a must for hikers, nature lovers and families in the Waldviertel.
