Zwettltal

Outdoor adventure

Description

Zwettl is one of the largest towns in the Waldviertel, but there is no sign of the hustle and bustle of the town in the adjacent Zwettl Valley. Idyllic hiking trails follow the gently flowing Zwettl river, past coniferous forests, flower meadows and tranquil woodlands. Nature is a paradise here: old trees, groups of rocks and riverside willows give the valley an almost jungle-like atmosphere.

To the west of Zwettl, the river of the same name meanders through a pristine landscape. The further you go into the Zwettl valley, the more secluded the paths become, perfect oases of peace for walkers and hikers. The sections near Syrafeld, Groß Gerungs and the Klaus Chapel are particularly worth seeing. In summer, the cool, reddish-brown water of the river invites you to take a refreshing dip.

The surrounding area away from the river valley is characterized by terraced landscapes and strip meadows, a typical feature of the Waldviertel and a unique cultural landscape that has inspired many painters.

The Zwettltal is part of the Natura 2000 protected area. Otters, river pearl mussels, stone crayfish and numerous bat species live here - a species-rich habitat that is being preserved. The Zwettltal forest adventure trail is particularly recommended: an approximately 6 km long circular hiking trail from Zwettl, ideal for a 2-hour excursion into nature.

Discover your favorite spot in the Zwettltal and enjoy peace, nature and idyllic landscapes in the heart of the Waldviertel.
