Mohnwirt Neuwiesinger
Tavern / innThis business is excellent…
Description
At Mohnwirt Neuwiesinger, everything revolves around the gold from the far north. Over 35 years ago, Rosemarie and Johann Neuwiesinger specialized in the grey poppy seed. The culinary spectrum ranges from poppy seed noodles, cakes, tents and poppy seed soup to carp in a poppy seed crust. The small seeds with their powerful healing properties have become part of the family's philosophy of life. Despite its short flowering period, the poppy is present in the inn all year round. The Mohnwirt-Stadl is home to one of the largest collections of poppies in the country, with around 2000 specimens. To put it in a nutshell: Mohnwirt Neuwiesinger has developed into a poppy seed village. Various themed stations show the path from the tender bud to the magnificent poppy blossom.
The poppy and the inn
Rosemarie and Johann Neuwiesinger have represented the Mohnwirt in Armschlag since 1989. In 2024, their daughter Katharina and her husband Markus Neuwiesinger took over the business. The family business, with its own poppy-growing area and high gastronomic offer, is of great importance for the Waldviertel. The values of Lower Austrian tavern culture are proudly displayed: The lived hospitality, the craftsmanship in the kitchen and the inviting service characterize the Dorfwirtshaus in the Zwettl district. In addition to the sweet and savory poppy seed specialties, the juicy roast with Waldviertel dumplings and bacon cabbage salad is highly recommended. So it's not just the poppy seeds that guests will remember for a long time.
