Description
Weitra, the oldest brewing town in Austria, has a new star in the culinary firmament - the Rathskeller Weitra, formerly Gasthof Waschka. The Waldviertel joie de vivre has always permeated the kitchen, cellar, parlor and hotel rooms. Matthias Bachofner is a landlord, hotelier and café owner with heart and soul. Daniel Kurzmann pursues his passion in the kitchen. Whatever is in season and represents Waldviertel cuisine goes into the cooking pot. The ingredients have to be fresh. Regulars, locals and day visitors from near and far know that the Rathskeller Weitra serves one of the best roast pork with beer sauce. The team around Thomas Wurm and Daniel Strohmayer serve classic Waldviertler Erpfiknödel dumplings and coleslaw to go with it. The baked Waldviertel carp with parsley dumplings, cabbage dumplings and spinach dumplings are also popular. The beer specialties are not only served on the plate, but above all in the glass - the house beer created exclusively for the Rathskeller, the Pils. Liquid gold is also featured on the dessert menu. The wild berry and beer sorbet is made in-house and is a refreshing change. Also recommended: the homemade poppy seed cake with plum roaster.
Pure relaxation, recreation and enjoyment
The Rathskeller Weitra has the right room for every celebration: be it the Weitra Bierstube, the vaulted cellar or the winter garden. There is also room for relaxation. Located directly on Rathausplatz, in the midst of romantic town houses, the Rathskeller Weitra is the ideal starting point for an exploration tour. Both in summer and winter, there is plenty to marvel at in Weitra, both in culinary and scenic terms. In spring and fall it's Nebelstein and Mandelstein, in winter especially the fairytale Renaissance castle Weitra. Afterwards, the fine wellness area with Finnish sauna and steam bath promises pure relaxation - as do the charmingly furnished rooms with lots of wood and evocative names such as Hopfentraum, Zapfmeister and Biermeister.
