Jägerhaus
Historical sites
Description
The Jägerhaus in Großschönau was first mentioned in a document in 1499 and belonged to Engelstein Castle. As its name suggests, it was the residence of the manorial hunters. It later served as the sheep master's residence. In the 19th century, the Schafhof was demolished and the house was rebuilt in Tudor Gothic architecture.
Today, the historic building houses a nostalgic cinema from 1930, where selected films are shown, as well as a post office from 1900, a gendarmerie post from the 1950s and an old village school.
The Jägerhaus can be viewed by appointment. Find out more at www.museum-dorfleben.at
