Schauenstein Ruin

Between the Kamp Valley and the heart of the Waldviertel.

On a clear day the ruins of Schauenstein near Pölla provide a panoramic view of the surrounding Kamp valley. The building dates from the 11th and 12th centuries and was built by the Babenbergs to protect themselves against the Bohemians. It was, however, extensively damaged during the Thirty Year War. A romantic walking trail leads to the ruin from the village of Krug.

Opening hours
Schauenstein Ruin is accessible at all times apart from the keep which has been converted into an outlook tower.
