Ruine Kollmitz

The Kollmitz ruins are located to the east of Raabs an der Thaya and are one of the largest ruins in Austria. Kollmitz Castle was built in the 13th century to secure the border against Bohemia. It stands on a rock surrounded by the Thaya river. The so-called Bohemian Wall can still be seen at the narrowest point of the Umlaufberg. The ruins are a popular excursion destination for people from near and far. The mighty fortification can be reached from Raabs within an hour's walk via a marked hiking trail. Once there, you can stop for refreshments at the snack station, which is open from May to October in good weather, and enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding area.
