Brief description

The Herb Cycling Route is a circular bike route and part of the regional cycling concept of the 6-sense cycling rounds ("Smell") of the Zukunftsraum Thayaland.

Description

After starting in Karlstein, you cycle steeply uphill to Münchreith, then continue on gently hilly secondary roads to the Thayarunde bike path, following it for 10 km to the Peigarten exit. Through slightly hilly terrain to Kleinzwettl to the fortified church and the Kainz tavern. Then on via Gastern and Engelbrechts to the Rock of the Scorpion, followed by Kautzen, home of the "Falke" cycling club. Over Groß Taxen to the border, where after a short time you reach the pottery village Maires/Maříž, then Slavonice on the Thayarunde bike path. At Piesling/Písečné, turn off to the Jewish cemetery, then continue to Riegers and Unterpertholz. From there along the Thaya River to Weikertschlag. Via Thuma you return to Karlstein.

We recommend: Helmet, suitable clothing and footwear, rain and sun protection, first aid kit, sufficient provisions (snack, muesli bars, fruit, water). The route is suitable for city bikes, trekking bikes, e-bikes.

Safety information

Route consists of about 80% asphalt and 20% gravel; mainly on lightly trafficked secondary roads.

Make sure when choosing the route that it matches your fitness level. Check whether the gastronomy establishments you want to visit on the way are open. Pack your mobile phone and maps in your backpack.
