Film club Drosendorf

Description

The Drosendorf Film Club was founded in 1990 and saved the Drosendorf cinema from closing down for good. The cinemas in the Gasthofsaal Failler were long past their prime and led a miserable existence. This is why there has been a movie theater in the small Waldviertel town without interruption since 1920. The death of the cinema left Drosendorf unscathed.

With a great deal of commitment from the members of the film club, the country cinema developed into an arthouse cinema without losing the charm of the old movie theater. In June 1990, the film club opened with its first screening - and what movie would have been more fitting than "Cinema Paradiso"? The Italian classic about cinema nostalgia and secret kisses under the cover of darkness.

The club line focuses on arthouse cinema with current films and films with a current context. In the case of Austrian productions, there is usually an opportunity to discuss the films with the director afterwards, while the film club brings little-noticed international works such as films from Africa, Eastern Europe and South America to Drosendorf.

Guests are seated at tables in the inn hall with its red brocade wallpaper and are then offered a small culinary treat to accompany the film, as well as the opportunity to enjoy a cozy or stimulating evening at the cinema with friends.
